Mori is very protective of Honey and feels responsible for each thing that can (and does) go wrong for him. This can be seen when Honey gets a cavity in Ep 12 - Honey's Three Bitter Days! wherein the loli-boy gets a cavity and must give up sweets. The two hosts are cousins by marriage and their families have a long-standing history. It is no secret that Honey and Mori are incredibly close most scenes in which each appears are shared with the other. The Morinozuka family line extends into antiquity for as long as the Haninozuka family line and the families' histories are closely intertwined. Although the Morinozuka originally served as helpmates to the Haninozuka, marital ties and the subsequent blending of bloodlines have forged a unique tie with the Haninozuka. In Western culture, a truly blue rose does not occur naturally however, in art, it signifies attainment of the impossible with a secondary meaning of prosperity. Mori's "unattainable" is Haruhi (though never directly stated) and an omake reveals that he does indeed live a prosperous life and continues to do so in the future. In Japanese culture, blue signifies loyalty Mori demonstrates this quality when it comes to Honey, his studies, and the Host Club. Mori's rose color in the Host Club is deep blue. He is noted to wear the typical Ouran Academy blazer unbuttoned on most occasions, and is rarely ever seen without Honey walking by his side or perching on his shoulders. Mori is an imposing figure that is made all the more so by his wild appearance, possessing a very tall build and strong body, spiky black hair, dark grey eyes and a darker skin tone than the other Hosts. The positive traits of this sign are generosity, dependability, down to earth nature, patience, independence and persistence while the negative traits are stubbornness, indolence, materialism, possessiveness and frugality. Mori is born under the star sign of Taurus, the Bull. While there, Mori is shown to be rather blunt in addressing Hikaru's issues. In Chapter 51 of the manga, Hikaru Hitachiin is shown to stay the night at Mori's home. In the anime episode Ep 22 - Mori-Senpai Has An Apprentice Candidate, 1st-year student Ritsu Kasanoda - the third generation heir of the Kasanoda-gumi (a yakuza gang), seeks Mori's advice on making friends because, despite his intimidating appearance, he appears to have many. This is demonstrated in his willingness to assist them in whatever they need without a second thought and without ever appearing subservient or uncertain of his individuality. Mori is quite loyal and generous, especially in regards to Honey and the female host, Haruhi. In the manga, he speaks frequently, possibly because of the greater distance presented between himself and his best friend and cousin, Honey. His protective nature extends not only to Honey but to his friends and classmates, as well. He is extremely well-respected and well-liked by everyone who knows him however, when tired, he can become talkative and somewhat flirtatious, which surprises those unaccustomed to this side of his personality. This makes him a wise adviser to those who seek his counsel or need it subconsciously. In the anime and through most of the manga, Mori only speaks when something needs to be said, his intelligence and observant nature taking in much more than many of the people around him realize. His stoic and sometimes scary demeanor hides the fact that he has a peculiar connection with animals as seen in the manga when he adopts a stray tanuki and cares for a baby chick, and wherein it is also joked about him having a "fetish for small things" (Honey, Haruhi Fujioka, etc.). He is a national champion in kendo and a skilled karate practitioner. Despite this, Mori still faithfully looks out for Honey and attends to his wishes. He is rarely seen without his cousin and best friend, Mitsukuni "Honey" Haninozuka, who is often found riding on his shoulders. Historically, the Morinozuka family had served the Haninozuka family for many generations before marriage joined the families, thus breaking the master-servant tradition. Masaya Nakamura Takashi Morinozuka (aka Mori, 銛之塚 崇, Morinozuka Takashi) is a 3rd-year student at Ouran Academy and the second-oldest member of the Ouran Host Club. As a Host, he is considered the "Wild" type in the manga and the "Strong-Silent" type in the anime. You work in two main windows: the Comp window, a large pasteboard on which you can layer and position elements such as video clips, text, and still images and a Time Layout window, which you use to control how the position and characteristics of elements change over time. The basic operating style of After Effects remains unchanged in this version. Its primary specialty is motion-based effects that involve multiple image layers: moving text, images, and video clips superimposed over full-screen video or patterned backgrounds. While you could use After Effects to create simple cuts and dissolves between scenes, people commonly use it to supplement an editing package. These were the players with the highest score in each position across the campaign, but who were the highest scoring players at each club? It’s likely that you’ll have already seen the OptaJoe Premier League team of the season for 2022-23, which was built using our Opta Player Ratings system. Opta Player Ratings: Top Performers of 2022-23 These raw scores are then smoothed out to measure how close they are to the average (Z-scores) and then converted into an intuitive rating on a scale of 20 to 100 to give them a final rating. For example, a defender would not be expected to perform as well in the attacking subcomponent as a centre-forward, and therefore the weighting applied to defenders and centre-forwards for those actions are different. This ensures that ratings are distributed fairly across each of the subcomponents regardless of position. Using each subcomponent, the total score is calculated according to the player’s position in the match. The formula that works out the overall match rating have been developed by Opta’s own team of data scientists in conjunction with our award-winning data editorial team. Over 100 different metrics are taking into consideration for the Opta Player Rating, with the final score being devised from six subcomponents, corresponding to different qualitative aspects of a player’s performance. The Opta Player Ratings have been carefully formulated over time to provide an accurate measure of performance for a player over a single match, specific period or whole season across a competition, based on their in-game data. With the new Premier League campaign on the horizon, we look back at the top performing players from last season at each of the 20 clubs that will make up the 2023-24 Premier League, based on their Opta Player Rating score.īefore we do that, it’s important to show you how the Opta Player Ratings are devised. But what are they, and how can they be used to measure performance? The Opta Player Ratings are something you’ll be hearing a lot more about across the new season on Opta Analyst. Seems like marginnote team has been busy and struggling to update the app so I don’t know if it’s as good as I remembered it. Just got the new mac mini M2 but I’m now a bit nervous. I had a 2011 MacBook pro but I can’t update to the latest OS to use marginnote and the virtual machine is too slow. These products will often use some variation of the text box or frame method of adding the notes. Yeah, I’m getting the same results as you. As an example, using columnar text may work great until you have a margin note that runs longer than the paragraph in which the note is referenced.Īnother way to handle margin notes is to use a third-party Word add-on that provides the feature. Each of these is appropriate under differing circumstances, and you may want to try each to see if you get the desired effect. You could also use text boxes, frames, or columns to simulate margin notes. (Tables within tables is not a problem in later versions of Word.) There is a drawback to this if you are using Word 97: You cannot use tables within tables, and thus you could not use tables in a document with margin notes implemented using tables. For instance, you can create a two-column table and use the left column for notes and the right column for text (or vice versa). You can, however, use other features of Word to simulate margin notes. marginnote implements margin notes using a non-float mechanism, which is different to how \marginpar works: marginnote resolves some problems but, as its documentation notes, it can introduce others. The marginnote package offers a versatile alternative to the \marginpar command. While Word does have a powerful footnote and endnote capability, it does not have a native margin note capability. An alternative to \marginpar: the marginnote package. However, many food writers and chefs say that if you cook pasta al dente according to the box’s instruction and then add it to the sauce in the pan, you will come out with overcooked pasta.Īs a result, recipes now call for “molto al dente”. This works perfectly if you plan to add the sauce on top before serving. Today, we have the help of the timing recommended on the package of pasta that we buy from groceries and supermarkets. Early recipe books in the 1800s described this timing of cooking pasta. “Al dente” translates to “to the tooth” meaning you feel the chewy, firm texture upon biting the pasta in your teeth. Learn more about this timing of cooking pasta, a couple of pasta terms, and tips for cooking. The one most described in recipes is “al dente”. But, however, you drain it, keep a little of the pasta water handy so that you can add it to the pasta and sauce mixture, in case you need more moisture either to correct the thickness of the sauce, or the help finish out the pasta (the pasta may need some more water to absorb).Everyone has their personal preference for their ideal bite of pasta. I find that the best way to “drain” pasta is to lift it out of the water. If you plan to toss the pasta in the sauce, remember to cook it just a little less than you want it, and then let it finish cooking in the sauce. You have to be patient and test it a few times when you think it is about done. And, how long must the pasta stick to the wall? Should it cling for a half a second and fall off, or should it stick like glue? What about the force with which you throw it? Since you cannot control accurately for all these factors, and the instruction itself gives no standard or reliable guidelines, we may start to realize that this test is just plain silly.įor most dried pasta, the box directions may give you a pretty good indication of the time it will take for the pasta to cook to a proper al dente texture, but the only reliable test for the doneness of pasta is to try some and find out if it is the right tenderness. Also important is how much of the surface area of the pasta makes contact with the wall. The surface texture of the wall certainly matters a lot. In reality, there are a number of factors that determine whether it will stick, not only the degree of doneness of the pasta. For example, some cooks say that once spaghetti sticks to the wall, it is always overcooked and mushy. Sometimes, when people debunk this myth, they overstate it. On the other hand, it may stick to the wall and already be too mushy. That is, it is a coincidence that the pasta stuck and happens to be ready. If you throw some at the wall and find that it sticks, then you try some and it is perfectly al dente, it’s called luck. So, your spaghetti or other pasta can stick to the wall but still be too crunchy. The outer surface of the pasta can start to get sticky before the inner part is tender enough. When you boil pasta it cooks from the outside in. If your pasta sticks to the wall it simply means it is sticky. The problem with the wall spaghetti test is that the stickiness of pasta does not indicate when it is done. Chances are, it was started by one chef or one cookbook and was then repeated without question by many others. I tried to find an origin for this instruction, or at least an indication of where it might have come from, but I was unable to trace it. Throwing spaghetti at the wall is not any kind of indication whether it is done. Premium Italian pasta like this is much less likely to go mushy and it is easier to get perfectly al dente. I usually use De Cecco Spaghetti and other De Cecco pastas at home. So, the wall test is supposed to tell you when your spaghetti is al dente: just right. Not liking your dried pasta? Try a pack of authentic Italian De Cecco Spaghetti.įirst, although you probably already know this, most cooks agree that pasta is done when it is al dente, meaning “to the tooth.” It is somewhat tender but gives a little resistance when you bite it. The Rock retired from WWE, and Brock Lesnar temporarily left to join the NFL, leaving John Cena to become the face of the company.īy 2005, the Y2K aesthetic had more or less vanished completely. Marvel's Blade series, known for its heavy use of Y2K aesthetics and music, ended. The first Web 2.0 conference was held in October 2004, early social media sites such as MySpace were rising in popularity, and the sixth generation of video game consoles had their last major year of popularity. McDonald's retired the McDonaldLand characters (except for Ronald) and rebranded from "We love to see you smile" to the infamous "I'm lovin' it". The final major Nu-Metal albums were released in 2004 emo soon overtook nu-metal with the popularization of Myspace and release of Green Day's American Idiot. Nickelodeon went through a similar transition as well, with '90s Nicktoons, the SNICK block, and pre-movie SpongeBob SquarePants ending. Cartoon Network switched from the Powerhouse to CN City era, with most of their '90s programs ending and Toonami moving to Saturday nights. New aesthetics such as McBling, UrBling, Surf Crush, and 2K1 appeared at this time, initially running concurrent with Cybercore.Ģ004 was the last hurrah of the Y2K aesthetic. The Y2K Era gradually declined afterward due to events such as the Dot-com Bubble Burst, 9/11, and the War on Terror, though residual aesthetics from the era still remained popular until 2004. Y2K peaked around late 1999/early 2000, coinciding with the turn of the millennium and apex of the Dot-com Bubble. The Y2K Era then took off in full force from 1998 to 2000, with things such as Pokemania, Limp Bizkit, NSYNC, TRL, The Matrix, TOM replacing Moltar on Toonami, and Britney Spears hitting their peak popularity. Y2K fashions such as frosted tips, soul patches, and JNCOs were becoming popular. The movies Titanic and Men in Black were released which are regarded as Y2K phenomena. The PS1 and N64 were now in full-swing with games such as Final Fantasy VII and Goldeneye. South Park and King of the Hill premiered, and Cartoon Network debuted the Toonami block which mainstreamed anime in the U.S. WWF entered the edgier Attitude Era and had gotten rid of its Memphis aesthetics (from the New Generation Era) by March 1998, in an attempt to compete with rival companies WCW (which, coincidentally, probably adopted more elements of the actual Y2K aesthetic compared to its competition) and ECW. Also, post- grunge started to become popular with bands like Creed and Foo Fighters, Nu-Metal began its mainstreaming with Limp Bizkit, Deftones, and Incubus, Hanson released " Mmmbop", and more music videos by artists such Puff Daddy (" Mo Money Mo Problems"), Will Smith ("Gettin' Jiggy wit It", "Men in Black"), and the Spice Girls ("Say You'll Be There") were done in the Y2K style. and gained international popularity, leading to a new era in teen pop, and in a Super Bowl ad that year the group heralded the arrival of "Generation Next". The Spice Girls' single "Wannabe" was released in the U.S. The Y2K Era became well-defined by 1997, replacing the Core '90s Era which had been known for its grittier aesthetics such as Grunge. We are using the PM Reading scheme at our school, and it certainly doesn’t support a pedagogy based on decoding and phonics. Their reading confidence takes a hit too. However, I've noticed that when my young students encounter tricky words like ' said,' ' was,' or ' saw,' they struggle. Read on to discover some practical resources, research insights, and teaching examples that empower kindergarten teachers to rethink sight word instruction and create a strong foundation for lifelong reading success.Īs a teacher, I believe in the power of teaching phonics to help children become independent readers. In this post, we will look at the limitations of outdated sight word teaching practices and find out if teaching the First 100 Sight Words in kindergarten is truly beneficial or if there are alternative approaches that can better support early reading development. Sight words play an important role in early literacy, but recent research makes us question the effectiveness of traditional sight word teaching methods. With the ever-evolving educational research and the Science of Reading gaining prominence, it's crucial we reevaluate our teaching practices and question the effectiveness of some of our old traditional approaches to teaching reading. They can help with reading fluency and comprehension.Let's talk about something important – sight words! With the latest Science of Reading research in mind, should we even teach the First 100 Sight Words in kindergarten? Sight words are a big part of our education world. This can be done independently, in literacy centers, or as a morning motivator. When you have some time to kill, you can use sight word games to help your students learn their words while having a great time. Reason 6: Easily IntegratedĪnother great thing about sight words is they can be easily integrated into your classroom in fun ways. Because they know what it means, they can transfer that knowledge to the sentence and help determine the meaning of the sentence. When students know a sight word, they also know what it means. If you are reading a text in class that is more difficult, sight words can come to your rescue. By having words that don’t follow typical phonics rules such as “are,” you can help avoid potential blunders. These sight words should be memorized so they don’t have to use their decoding skills. Sometimes there are words that just don’t follow the rules! When this happens, it’s great to have it as a sight word. Reason 4: Break the RulesĪs teachers, we spend a good deal of time explaining the phonics of words. Working with sight words can help create that fluency and the confidence that accompanies it. When students are reading a passage with fluency, they feel more confident about themselves as a reader. However, if students know their words and the text is grade-appropriate, they should be able to read it with more fluency. When students struggle with basic words, it can be crushing to have to stumble through a reading passage. One of the hardest parts about being a struggling reader is getting asked to read something out loud. For example, if “cat” is one of your words, they might be able to decode a harder word like “catfish” or “catatonic.” While they might not know the meaning of the word “catatonic,” knowing how to say it is the first step to a broader vocabulary. If a student knows various sight words, it becomes easier for them to decode longer words that include the shorter word. Ok, so yes, I already talked about this, but sight words create fluency beyond just the words they are working on at that time. When students know how to pronounce something, they can focus more on the meaning and less on deciphering words they should just know from the get-go. Sight words, in general, make students more fluent readers which can turn into comprehension rates rising. There are several reasons why these are vital to your students’ success. Not only should they know how to pronounce them, but they should also know what they mean. Put simply, they are words you expect students to know just by looking at them in the text. We should do this with our students as well by teaching them sight words. Why is that? Because throughout your life, you have been introduced to words that you should just know. When you’re reading through a text, there are some words you just know and you don’t have to think about them. It was the first Atelier game I actually got hands-on time with as I’ve previously only watched my sister play through them, and it was extremely enjoyable. The Atelier series has been alive and kicking since 1997 – that’s nearly twenty years! Although the first Atelier game to hit North American shores was in 2005, it’s evolved, grown, and morphed into a unique JRPG that not many know in comparison to other JRPGs. |
